DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatis) is a wonderfully simple but not simplistic miniature wargame rule set covering the period from 3000 BC to almost 1600. To play the game requires a minimum of investment in rules, miniatures, and terrain, and time. The rules can be found for around $12. An average 15mm sized miniature army for DBA can be bought for $20-30 (or paper counters for the armies downloaded for free!). The standard board for 15mm DBA games is 2 feet by 2 feet. Terrain can be as simple or developed as you want. A game typically lasts from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
